Glass Solar film Removal Demo!

Typically, Solar Window Films come in two different types: –

PVC – This is sheet form and can be peeled off in strips, for more awkward pieces a professional window blade can be used.

Glue residue left behind is removed by soaking the window/glass with soapy water and scraping off using a razor-sharp window scraper.

PET – This Solar Film is made up of layers of metallised material and appears more brittle than PVC.

To remove would be the same process as PVC but the film will come off in much smaller pieces. Ensure that the glass is lubricated with soapy water before attempting to remove the film as a Sharp scraper will be required.

Glue residue can then be removed by applying soapy water to the glass and scraping of the residue.

For both of these processes it is vital that the window/glass is soapy at all times because attempting to scrape off the film and glue residue from a dry window will result in scratching the glass.

There are many reasons for wanting to remove Solar Film: –

  • It may have lost its tint and discoloured
  • Aged – starting to crack or become dry
  • Effectiveness – It’s no longer doing the job it’s supposed to do by splitting or lifting in places.
  • Sunlight – This can damage film over time making the tint inefficient.

Some people choose to remove Solar Film to either replace with more effective film for safety reasons or maybe for cosmetic looks.

The most difficult part of this process is removing the glue residue (adhesive). This can take a bit of patience and muscle! Sensitivity is part and parcel of this process as too is using the correct equipment. It can be a slow process but also a very satisfying result. Most Solar films will have to be removed manually, which sometimes is labour intensive.

Here at Glimmer Cleaning Services we will remove your unwanted film professionally, leaving your windows/glass squeaky clean, whether it’s ready for new film to be applied or for the natural look.
